I am a fourth-year medical student at Hull York Medical School with a strong passion for teaching and inspiring students to enjoy learning. I have over five years of teaching experience, working with students from early primary school through to Key Stage 3 and GCSE, across both 1:1 tuition and group-based lessons delivered in person and online. My experience includes working as a tutor at a national UK tutoring centre alongside ongoing private tuition.
My teaching approach focuses on breaking down complex topics into clear, foundational concepts and building understanding gradually through small, manageable steps. I make extensive use of active recall, regular low-stakes quizzing and retrieval practice to help students retain knowledge and, importantly, develop the confidence to apply what they have learned.
I aim to create an engaging and interactive learning environment where students feel actively involved rather than simply being lectured to. I adapt my teaching to each student’s individual needs, identifying gaps in their understanding and working with them to build both their knowledge and confidence. I believe effective teaching should go beyond simply preparing students for an exam; it should help students develop the skills, curiosity and confidence to become independent learners.
Studying medicine has further strengthened my ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and effectively. My experience at Hull York Medical School has given me a strong academic foundation across the sciences, while also developing my ability to explain challenging concepts in an accessible and engaging way. I hope to use this experience to help students not only achieve their academic goals, but also develop a genuine enjoyment of learning.
