Joanne Mullan

Science, Maths, English

I have a Bachelor of Education with teaching certificate and have been working in Education for almost 20 years. I started my career as a primary teacher and leader and then moved into Psychology, completing a Masters Degree in Psychology specialising in Child Development and another Masters Degree in the Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing. Having this background makes me a better teacher. I believe that students learn best when their emotional needs are nurtured and they build a secure and trusting relationship with their tutor; I always take time and care to do this.

As well as being a passionate teacher, I am a life-long learner and you will always find me on a course! I am currently completing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on how best to support students’ psychological needs.

Along with Class Tutor, I tutor part-time at The University of Glasgow and I also deliver Mental Health First Aid Qualifications. I love teaching online and some of my research has been on investigating how to maximise learning in online environments. I would describe my teaching style as nurturing and supportive with the right amount of challenge; I am good at recognising my students’ potential and helping them to see it and work towards it is a privilege.
