I am a patient, caring and understanding tutor who is highly motivated to achieve the best I can, and to help students achieve to the best of their ability in turn. I achieved a 2:1 at the end of my First Year of my English Literature and Creative Writing Bachelor’s degree, which I am currently undertaking at Lancaster University.
Having had a combined total of three years of tutoring experience, I am a capable tutor who is familiar with the English curriculum, having achieved high grades myself at GCSE level and A-Level. I am an effective communicator, and I take on a supportive approach regarding students and their learning needs. I aim to help improve my student’s confidence and encourage students to achieve their goals, regardless of their background.
I make engaging and interactive lessons for student to help them focus on their learning and to enjoy English, employing the use of the chat and quizzes. I adapt them based on a student’s specific learning style and learning needs. I make it understandable and clear to a range of students how to approach a variety of examination and essay questions, using the assessment objectives and texts as a guide to help them understand what they need to do to achieve the grade they are aiming for. Once this understanding of how to approach the exams has been developed, I begin to use old examination papers and examination questions and go through it gradually with students, until they can answer questions with confidence.
I use specific examples to clarify difficult subject matter for students, and give them tips for exams. I give students positive and constructive feedback to help them improve, and I believe that making mistakes is an important part of learning, so long as students do not give up and work hard to achieve their goals.
