Every student is different. Some are visual learners who learn best from watching several worked examples, whereas other students may instead prefer individually attempting lots of practice questions to ingrain the technique into their brain. As an online Maths & Science Tutor, it’s my job to find out which teaching style works best for your child!
I loved school when I was younger, but I can appreciate that this isn’t necessarily the case for most students. Excelling academically was a great source of confidence for me growing up – through tuition, I hope to instil to my students the same academic confidence which allowed me to flourish at school!
I achieved 9 A* and 1 A at GCSE, sitting my Maths GCSE 1 year early and achieving 100% – I have always been naturally inclined towards the subject! I continued down the STEM route, choosing Physics, Maths and Chemistry as my Higher Level subjects for IB – I completed the diploma, scoring 40 points with 7, 6, 6 in my HL subjects respectively. Whilst the content of A-Level and IB does vary slightly across subjects, the broader nature of the IB syllabi has proven to be especially useful now that I am a Tutor. This past year, I was able to effectively prepare and deliver lessons to Maths & Science students from many different exam boards, both UK-based (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) and International (WJEC and EIAS), because of the deep understanding I was able to gain through studying IB rather than A-Level. IB was also great because it meant I could keep studying Spanish in Sixth Form!
I have 3 years of experience as an Educator and through teaching students of varying abilities and backgrounds, I have learnt to be flexible and creative. I have come to appreciate that explaining the very same question may require unique angles of approach for different students, but most importantly, lots of patience. Not every student will find the answer instantly (they wouldn’t need a Tutor if they could!) – helping them navigate towards a complete understanding of the topic isn’t always a linear journey, but it is incredibly fulfilling when we finally get there! I look forward to teaching even more students this year, so I can help them get better at Maths & Science but more, importantly enjoy it, and I can evolve further as a Tutor along the way!
